- Performs better than DMSO without the toxic effects
Cryo-Ess™ has demonstrated cryopreservation of the following cell types:
- Platelets
- Bone marrow
- Cartilage
- Islet cells
- Cord blood cells
- Vero cells
- Chick embryo fibroblasts
- Human embryonic kidney (HEK)
- Equine stem cells
- Leucocytes (B&T cells)

This graph shows the recovery rate of Vero Cells and Chick embryos cells after freezing. Cryo-Ess™ has a superior recovery rate over DMSO and Cryo-Ess™ is not toxic to the cells once they have thawed. |
Applications
Cryo-Ess™ (Cryo-preservation medium) is used as a cryopreservation solution without addition of cryoprotective agents (e.g. DMSO. HES).
Using a controlled method of freezing tissues or cells, they can be stored down to -196° in Cryo-Ess™ without adding DMSO, where they are maintained in a vital state. Crystallization of liquid in the tissue or cells is minimized in Cryo-Ess™ during thawing (which is critical for cell viability). Therefore tissue and cells in the tissue will remain vital in thawing in Cryo-Ess™.

Jurkat Cells Frozen in Cryo-Ess™ Freezing Medium

| |
Results of two independent freezing experiments. Jurkat cells were frozen in CryoEssTM freezing medium and as control in 90% cell culture medium + 10% DMSO (standard).
Directly after thawing the cells were counted and the viability was measured by the automated cell counter CASY TT (direct viability).
